🛡️LESSON 11 OF 11

PROTECT YOURSELF

People who get taken aren't careless. They're rushed, flattered or scared.

Identity theft, online safety, predatory loans, employment scams, contracts, your legal rights and recognizing manipulation. Learn the patterns before the test module runs them on you.

THE FIVE THINGS TO KNOW

01

The signature of every scam

Urgency, secrecy, and an unusual payment method. Gift cards, wire transfers, crypto and cash apps are the tell — no government agency, bank, employer or utility will ever ask for those. Real organizations let you hang up and call the number on your card.

02

Identity theft and credit freezes

Freezing your credit at all three bureaus is free, takes minutes, and blocks new accounts opened in your name. Check your credit report yearly. If someone drains an account, call the bank first, then file a report — speed decides how much comes back.

03

Predatory loans

Payday loans can run 300–400% APR: a $375 loan can cost over $500 to repay in a few weeks. Rent-to-own and title loans work the same way — small payments, brutal totals, and your car as collateral. Credit unions, employer advances and payment plans are almost always cheaper.

04

Job scams and online safety

Real employers never send you a check to deposit and forward, never charge for training or equipment, and never hire over text without an interview. Online: unique passwords in a manager, two-factor on email and bank first, and assume anything you send can be screenshotted.

05

Manipulation and your basic rights

Manipulation looks like guilt, flattery, isolation, moving fast, or rewriting what happened. In an unsafe relationship, leaving is the highest-risk moment — plan it with a person or hotline, not alone. You have the right to read before signing, to leave, to say no, and to ask if you're free to go.
