🫀LESSON 07 OF 11

PHYSICAL HEALTH, NUTRITION & HYGIENE

Your body is the one thing you can't trade in.

Doctors, insurance, medications, dental care, food, sleep, movement and body image. Learn how to take care of a body without a parent scheduling it, before the test module asks you to.

THE FIVE THINGS TO KNOW

01

Urgent care, ER, or wait until Monday

ER: chest pain, trouble breathing, heavy bleeding, head injury, suspected broken bone with deformity. Urgent care: fevers, cuts needing stitches, sprains, infections. Primary care: everything routine. Going to the ER for strep can cost ten times what urgent care charges.

02

Insurance words that cost you money

Premium is what you pay monthly to have coverage. Deductible is what you pay before it starts helping. Copay is your flat share of a visit. In-network providers cost far less than out-of-network — always check before you book.

03

Medication basics

Finish the full course of antibiotics even when you feel better. Don't mix acetaminophen brands — overdose damages the liver quietly. Never take someone else's prescription. Generic drugs are the same medicine at a fraction of the price.

04

Sleep, food and movement

Teens and young adults need 8–10 hours; running on 5 hits your mood, memory and immune system before you notice. Cooking three meals a week saves money and steadies your energy. Movement counts even when it isn't a gym — 20 minutes of walking is real.

05

Body image and eating habits

Bodies are not projects with a deadline. Warning signs worth telling someone about: skipping meals to control weight, secret eating, throwing up, exercising to punish yourself, or thoughts about food filling most of your day. These are common and treatable, and asking for help isn't dramatic.
