🧠LESSON 09 OF 11

MENTAL & EMOTIONAL WELLNESS

Feeling bad isn't a character flaw. It's information.

Stress, anxiety, loneliness, grief, conflict and knowing when to get help. Learn what's normal, what's a signal, and what actually works — before the test module asks you to notice it in yourself.

THE FIVE THINGS TO KNOW

01

Stress vs. anxiety vs. depression

Stress has a cause and fades when the cause does. Anxiety keeps running after the threat is gone and shows up in the body — chest, stomach, sleep. Depression flattens things: nothing is interesting, everything is heavy, for weeks. Two weeks of that is the line where you tell someone.

02

Things that reliably help

Sleep, movement, sunlight, food and one real conversation are not small — they're the baseline treatment for a reason. Slow breathing out longer than in calms the nervous system in about ninety seconds. Naming a feeling out loud measurably lowers its intensity.

03

Loneliness and grief

Loneliness is about depth, not headcount — you can feel it in a full room. Grief has no schedule and doesn't only follow death; it follows breakups, moves and losses of any kind. Both get lighter when spoken, heavier when hidden.

04

Conflict without wreckage

Use 'I felt ___ when ___' instead of 'you always.' Ask what they meant before deciding what they meant. Take a twenty-minute break when your heart rate is up — that's when people say the thing they can't take back.

05

When and how to get help

Get help when it lasts more than two weeks, when it's changing your sleep, eating or grades, or when you're thinking about hurting yourself. Start with one trusted adult, a school counselor, or a doctor. Call or text 988 anytime — free, confidential, 24/7.
